Menstrual Hygiene Sensitization and Sanitary Pads Drive
Our Goal:
Ending Period Poverty: Providing Dignity and Equality for Every Girl and Woman
This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by girls and women in accessing menstrual hygiene products and promoting awareness about menstrual health and hygiene. The program entails the following interventions:
Sensitization and Education:
We conduct menstrual hygiene sensitization sessions in schools, community centers, and women groups to break the stigma surrounding menstruation and provide accurate information about menstrual health. We educate girls and women about proper hygiene practices, menstrual cycle management, and the importance of using sanitary pads to maintain their health and wellbeing.
Distribution of Sanitary Pads
Recognizing the financial barriers that hinder many girls and women from accessing sanitary pads, we initiated a Sanitary Pads drive. Through partnerships with Hindu Council of Kenya, Sunda Housemart, and individual generous donors, we have been able to donate over 10,000 sanitary pads to girls and women in need. This has helped to ensure that they have access to hygienic and safe menstrual products.
Impact and Change
Through the Menstrual Hygiene Sensitization and Sanitary Pads Drive, we have witnessed several positive outcomes:
- Increased awareness: The program is successfully dismantling myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation, fostering a more informed and supportive environment.
- Improved menstrual hygiene practices: The program is empowering vulnerable girls and women with knowledge about proper hygiene practices, thus helping them to adopt healthier and more hygienic menstrual management techniques.
- Enhanced dignity and confidence: Access to sanitary pads has improved the self-esteem of our beneficiaries, allowing them to actively participate in school, work, and social activities without worry or discomfort.
- Reduced school absenteeism: Many girls who benefited from our program have reported a decline in school absenteeism during their menstrual cycles, as they no longer have to miss school due to lack of adequate menstrual supplies.
Long-term Sustainability
To ensure the sustainability of the program, we are going beyond distribution and focused on empowering girls and women by providing skills training in sustainable menstrual hygiene management. We plan to train them on making reusable sanitary pads from locally available materials, enabling them to create their own affordable and environmentally friendly alternatives.
